14. Breaking the Xiang (Manifestation)

When the lights were lit, the night was enchantingly beautiful.

 

In a bustling market, people are like passers-by in the fleeting lights. The mixed smell of wine and vehicle exhaust fills the air and it is neither good nor bad. The smell also carries the various moods of the passers-by. Perhaps this is the smell of the city.

 

Whenever I go to a city, I like to walk on the commercial streets. Among numerous shops neatly lined up, some are newly open and some are just closed down. This cycle seems insignificant to consumers, but it is a history of blood and tears for the business owners. If we compare business to a play, the business people’s ability of Jue (Perception) Shi (Cognition) is the playwright and director of the play. Whether it is a comedy or a tragedy all depend on Jue (Perception) Shi (Cognition) of the individuals. I am not fond of shopping, but I like contemplating the rationale behind different business models in various commercial contexts.

 

For accommodation, I often choose high-rise hotels with floor-to-ceiling windows. In the quiet of the night, I turn off all the lights in the room, stand in front of the window, and gaze at the city under the night sky: the world of Xiang (Manifestation) is truly beautiful! There is even a kind of trance. Am I looking at the colorful night outside the window? Or am I in an unusual dream?

 

What is Xiang (Manifestation)? It is the perception of energy and is the fruit of Jue (Perception) Shi (Cognition). When our Jue (Perception) Shi (Cognition) functions continuously, the Xiang (Manifestation) forms the World of Xiang (Manifestation).

 

Everyone has watched movies. When you are engrossed in a film, you may not realize that the movie is actually 24 frames per second of film flowing before your eyes. When the vision functions continuously, it forms the fascinating world on the screen. Some may say that everyone knows the principle of films, but people do not go to a movie to study the principle of projection, but for entertainment. That is current. For most people, watching movies is for entertainment, but some viewers, even if only one percent, may question, 'Besides the film, how does the world on the screen come about?' It is these viewers who are likely to learn more about the mysteries. The same thing happens to people in front of the World of Xiang (Manifestation).

 

Breaking the Xiang (Manifestation) means to be free from the bondage of Jue (Perception) Shi (Cognition). The journey of the Physical Body throughout life is a process of interaction between the senses and energy of the outside world. People always think they are living in a material world. What is matter? In fact, matter is the form of energy that can be perceived by the body.  We live in the Xiang (Manifestation) of matters. The life of the Physical Body is one living in Xiang (Manifestation). At this moment, the World of Xiang (Manifestation) is right before your eyes. However, it is not all ‘illusion.’ People who proclaim that all is ‘illusion’ are constrained by their Jue (Perception) Shi (Cognition). In fact, we are precisely living in the reality of the Xiang (Manifestation) and the “realness” binds everyone firmly. When the Xiang (Manifestation) of the “material world” breaks, I saw the essence of it and the control of Jue (Perception) Shi (Cognition) over Xiang (Manifestation).

 

The universe in the night sky, the city under the night sky, the room in the hotel, in front of the window of the room, where I stood. If we take twenty years as an age segment, standing at this point in time, looking forward, I see a naive young man, and looking back, an old man in his twilight years. The trajectory of the body has never been so clear, and some meaningful or meaningless life events become clear along with it. Breaking the Xiang (Manifestation) enables me see myself clearly in the flow of time.

 

Breaking the Xiang (Manifestation) did not mean that everything was resolved. At that time, I fell into a kind of confusion instead, often with a question lingering in my heart: How do I see this world?

 

There was a destined encounter which I finally made.
