43. Superstition and Science

Talking about the word “superstition”, people often append the term ‘feudal’. The Chinese dictionary defines ‘superstition’ as: 1. To believe obsessively in certain things like gods or ghosts. 2. Generally refers to blind faith and worship.

There are many explanations about “superstition”, such as, "essentially believing in something that shouldn't be believed, believing in some action or ritual that has magical effects, irrational belief without scientific basis..." and so on. It seems to be like this: as long as "what you believe is not what I believe," it's easy to label the other party as superstitious.

 

Superstition exists not only in humans. According to the article of “The Superstitious Behavior of Pigeons” by B.F. Skinner: Food is delivered to the experiment box at regular intervals. After a few days pigeons begin to act superstitiously, circling, hitting their heads, flapping their wings, hoping for food to appear. The pigeons misjudge the causality based on the correlation between "a certain action" and "the appearance of food," forming different "schools of superstition."

 

Low frequency cannot perceive high frequency, while high frequency sees low frequency very clearly. Human beings’ Jue (Perception) Shi (Cognition) is at a higher frequency than pigeons, so pigeons cannot perceive the experiment while humans see pigeons clearly. The root cause of superstition is the inability to distinguish between “correlation” and “causality”. The conclusion seems reasonable and well-founded. However, how does Jue (Perception) Shi (Cognition) of even higher frequency view humans? Human’s cognition of the phenomenon of superstition only remains at the surface.

 

So, what is "superstition"?

Superstition is the product of Jue (Perception) Shi (Cognition) of the Physical Body and is a unique phenomenon in “the twelve degrees of progression”.

The Yi Bodies that are in samsara “hibernate” and the reincarnation waves deal with the World of Xiang (Manifestation) using Jue (Perception) Shi (Cognition) of the Physical Body. Knowing the fact but not understanding the reason, they easily become obsessed with Xiang (Manifestation) and confused, thereby giving rise to superstition (including “spiritual practice, religions, idol worship,” etc.).

 

Animals are superstitious, humans are superstitious, aliens are superstitious, and "the supreme beings" in samsara are also superstitious. It can be said that superstition is like the watershed between the "Twelve Degrees of Progression" and the World of LING(BEING). As long as there is superstition, it has not escaped from the "Twelve Degrees of Progression."

If a spiritual practitioner connects with a “superstitious supreme being”, with one sincerely seeking the truth and the other transmitting superstition. The picture is quite amusing, leading to serious deviation of understanding. This is one of the reasons for the chaos of spiritual cultivation.

There is no superstition in the World of LING (BEING). The origin of life is clear. There is no basis for superstition, nor does it exist.

 

Science, as defined by the Chinese dictionary, is: 1, a knowledge system reflecting the objective laws of nature, society, and thought. 2, conforming with scientific principles.

There are many elaborations about "science," such as "science is the most reliable practical method for exploring the objective world, science is a systematic knowledge that truthfully reflects the inherent laws of objective things..." and so on.

 

Superstition and science are the two poles of limitation of Jue (Perception) Shi (Cognition) and is a pair of “sworn enemies” of linear thinking, fighting with each other as opponents. Some people joke, “When science climbs to a peak, it finds that theology is already there.” In fact, there is no need to joke because it is not difficult to distinguish between the high and the low. There are “theology and Buddhism”, but is there “Physics scripture or Astronomy Scripture?”

 

Some also say: "The authority of science is superstition about science, superstition of science." This statement is nonsense. Once the concept is clarified, it will be understood that superstition and science are destined not to become mutually modifying phrases.

 

Science to humans is like the "blind man's walking stick," a tool for exploring the world. Regardless of the purpose, it is inappropriate to belittle science. The reason is simple: "If you cannot give the light of Jue (Perception) Shi (Cognition), do not take away the blind man's walking stick."

 

What is “science” from the view of Jue (Perception) Shi (Cognition) of high frequency?

On Earth, the essence of science is "human-controllable." What can be controlled is incorporated into science and what is difficult to control is classified as "pseudo-science," thus dealing with fear of the unknown or uncertainty. Therefore, science does not lead people into superstition, but it easily leads to paranoid. if people are opposed to anything, they just need one word, that is, “unscientific!”

 

When people become paranoid, science becomes paranoid too. In the study of the micro world, particle accelerators are getting bigger and bigger, but they don't realize that no matter how much they smash the particles, they cannot smash out the "origin of energy." In exploring the macro world, people’s vision is limited in the universe. No matter how much dark matter and dark energy are observed, you cannot see the "high-density space." Humans always think that science can find the "ultimate truth," but they have overlooked the growth of Jue (Perception) Shi (Cognition); People always wish to “change the world”, but they have failed to understand balance.

 

The limitation of science lies in: the cognition of the World of Xiang (Manifestation) has fallen into “theory based only on Jue (Perception) Shi (Cognition) of Physical Body”. Progress of science can bring about an “upgrade of the blind’s walking stick”, but it will not bring the truth, just like submarine can never realize moon landing no matter how well it is built. Perhaps for some sentient beings, the truth is not a necessity of life. It is enough to have some “after-dinner talk” or “controllable explanation”, but there will always be some sentient beings desire to be awakened.

 

Clarifying "superstition and science" is for better cultivation of Shi (Cognition) and more grounded life. Stay away from superstition, respect science, be honest and practical, and seek truth from facts.
